COACHES CORNER - LEWIS CHAPLIN
Lewis started his coaching journey with United Dragons FC in March 2020. In the midst of various winter storms and the beginning of a global pandemic, you could argue that there was no worse time to start!!
However, due to the immediate positive impression Lewis made both with the players and the UDFC staff, it is a pleasure to say that Lewis has developed into one our best lead coaches. We caught up with Lewis earlier in the week to find out a little more about him..
1) Where did you grow up as a kid?
East London’s finest, Hackney
2) Did you play for a grassroots team/academy? Was there plenty of opportunities?
Yes I did. Bridge Rovers FC. I also played in the Regents Park Youth League funnily enough.
3) What did you want to be growing up as a kid?
It would have to be a Professional Footballer.
4) What is your best sporting memory (either player or spectating)
The Arsenal invincibles Season 2004. But, I also have to mentioned World Cup 2018 - the buzz around the UK was something I'd never forget. Fingers cross for the same again this summer.
5) If you could play football in a 5aside team, who would make your dream team
Oliver Khan, Rio Ferdinand, Viera, Messi, Henry
6) Who is your football idol?
Thierry Henry, all the way!
7) Do you have any 2021 sporting goals?
To be able to play, coach and attend football matches again.
8) What has been your proudest UD moment?
My first session with the u4s - Great group of children and always a joy to coach.
9) Describe your coaching philosophy
My coaching philosophy is simple. Everyone participating and having fun. The best learning happens when you're enjoying yourself.
10) Away from football, what hobbies do you take part in?
I go to the gym, I love to cook and read. I've also started coding and building websites during lockdown which has been fun - so lots more to look forward!
