January 2021 saw us packing up our UD online training schedule with activities each day in an effort to keep all our players active and engaged during these weeks in lockdown. We have a diverse range of sessions aside from football including Futsal, Fitness, ‘Skill of The Week’ and our UD Saturday Family Fitness session.

We are delighted to have seen over 295 children take part in our zoom sessions as well as 28 families who have made a fantastic effort on our Family Fitness session on Saturday mornings. Please feel free to log your children on to any of our sessions across the week, even just to check in and say ‘Hi’.

A training update can’t be complete without a few special mentions, firstly - Dakota McLean recorded a jaw dropping distance of 3.8 km in our 45 min’s Tuesday fitness session; a huge well done to Daniel Bowman, Adrien Buchet & Julius Carrier for being awarded the UD Player ‘Skill of the Week’; in our U6 Sunday session, 5-year old George Enterkin completed a staggering 50 step-over’s in 60 seconds and finally....a huge thank you to Coach Denerson who has been conducting zoom sessions from his family home in Brazil.

At United Dragons we have loved our Tuesday and Saturday Fitness classes. We feel that so much attention is often placed on children’s technical qualities that the physical side gets ignored. Health and exercise is such an important part of life that we have decided to pay it the attention it deserves. Every Tuesday we conduct a kids fitness class which is made up of bodyweight exercises designed to raise the heart rate, get a good sweat on and maintain a good level of fitness. Each session focuses on a key component of fitness, wether it be Cardio Vascular or Muscular Endurance. The attendance has been outstanding so far and the kids are beginning to design their own home workouts in the process!

All of our workouts are bodyweight only, meaning no equipment needed! One of the most important benefits of bodyweight exercise is its ability to improve your cardiovascular endurance and muscle strength all at once. Frequently changing your position keeps the heart rate elevated, while body weight and gravity work together to strengthen muscles.

We can’t wait to see you all online for our classes this month and in the meantime, Chris Smith has developed a Fitness workout you can all do in your spare time.
